What makes the editor unique

Written from scratch

No dependencies. Not written in Rust. Not a fork of VS Code (we're all sick of that malarkey).

Cross platform

Developed on Windows. Tested on a Mac. I've got no idea about Linux.

Easy setup

Select theme. Select keybindings. Toggle autosave. Now start coding.

Lightweight

About 1 MB gzipped download. Runs as a progressive web app (not an electron app). Fast loading. Auto updates. Doesn't eat up a ton of RAM like certain other editors.

Blazingly Fast

On a blazingly fast machine. Runs like crap on a really old laptop. To be honest, performance is about as good as VS Code.

Total Privacy

No login required. No telemetry. No cookies/trackers/notifications. I don't store any user data.

Over 50 languages supported

If your favorite language isn't supported, or if there are any syntax highlighting errors, let me know

Integrated AI

Choice of models from Anthropic, OpenAi, and Gemini. An API key is required, except for Gemini Nano which can be downloaded and used locally and offline.

No extensions

Genesis has everything you'd expect from a modern code editor built in. Except for a built in terminal, source control, debugger, local server, etc.

No annoying distractions

No obnoxious MDN hover boxes telling you what a div tag is. No overzealous warnings. No boring release notes on load.

Beginner friendly

Simple, minimalist interface. All settings and themes are configurable via menus, because ain't nobody got time to mess around with JSON files

Unique editing features

Innovative search and replace. Unlimited customization options with the custom stylesheet.

Solo developed

No daily standup interrogation. No Jira tickets. No sprint velocity. I built the editor that I wanted. If you like it then great, if not then no worries.

Totally free

Buy me a coffee to keep me buzzing. Credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay accepted. No account creation necessary.

FAQ

Why should I use Genesis and not VS Code? A just question my leige. The editor has many unique editing features not available in VS Code. You can learn about these by watching the video tutorials. Genesis aims to be the best code editor for beginners as it has a simpler interface than VS Code.
Does the editor have a built in terminal / source control / debugger / local server No. Because the editor is a progressive web app, it doesn't have access to the computers applications. In the future, the editor might be released as an electron app so that it could have these features.
Can I use the editor for vibe coding? Vibe coding my arse.
Is the editor open source? No.
Will the editor remain free? Who knows.
